"There are two exceptions: FX2 Amp Sim and FX2 Tape Sim, both of which are useful and under-rated distortion devices"

Sound On Sound Magazine, February 2004

Cakewalk Audio FX 2: Vintage analog simulation for digital audio.

Using revolutionary measurement and modeling techniques, Pittsburgh Digital was able to recreate some truly classic analog distortion tones on a PC platform for Cakewalk's newest effects package.

After acquiring some great old analog tape recorders and numerous classic guitar amps, we probed, prodded, measured, and collected tons of data. We closely monitored the way this great old gear behaves electronically and -- more importantly -- the way it distorts. Then, through some nifty DSP modeling techniques, Pittsburgh Digital recreated the sounds of this vintage gear in the digital domain, and let 'em rip on our PC machines.

Who ever thought a Pentium could crank?
