Line 6 Receives Patent for Digital Guitar Amplifier System

Modeling technology enables guitar amp to replicate the sounds of numerous "classic" amps

August 4, 1998 -- The United States Patent Office today awarded Line 6 (Culver City, CA) with the first-ever patent for a Tube Modeling Programmable Digital Guitar Amplification System. The Line 6 digital guitar amplifier (the AxSys 212) is genuinely unique, providing guitarists with realistic-sounding versions of their favorite classic amps, along with a powerhouse of digital effects; all in one box and at an affordable price. Along with jaw-dropping tube emulation, the amplifier contains a full palette of stellar effects especially suited to guitarists. To name but a few: Reverb (studio and spring), Chorus, Phasor, and Compressor. Further dynamic effects include Auto-Wah, Auto-Volume, and Ducking Delay. The patent, U.S. Patent 5,789,689,  was granted to the four inventors of the system: Michel Doidic (V.P. Engineering, Line 6),  Michael Mecca  (President, Pittsburgh Digital),   Marcus Ryle (President, Line 6), and Curtis Senffner (Engineer, Line 6).
